1752 - French army surrenders to the British in Trichinopoly.

1802 - US Academy at West Point founded. (Also known as West Point, Army, The Academy or simply The Point. It is a coeducational federal service academy located in West Point, New York.  In the four-year course, tuition for cadets is fully funded by the Army in exchange for an active duty service obligation upon graduation. Cadets are required to adhere to the Cadet Honour Code, which states that "a cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do." The academy bases a cadet's leadership experience as a development of all three pillars of performance: academics, physical and military).

1891 - Thomas A. Edison was issued a U.S. patent for an innovation for a “Phonograph”. 

1902 -   The first restaurant with vending machine service was the Automat Restaurant at 818 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The  Automats were America's first major fast-food chain. Customers put nickels into slots in the Automats and turned a knob. In the compartment next to the slot, food revolved into place for the customer to receive through a small glass door.

1905 - Albert Einstein published his analysis of Max Planck's quantum theory and its application to light. His article appeared in Annalen der Physik. Though no experimental work was involved, it was for these insights that Einstein earned his Nobel Prize.

1953 - John H. Kraft was granted a U.S. patent for "manufacture of soft surface cured cheese". The invention related in general to the manufacture of soft, surface cured, mold ripened cheeses, such as for example, Camembert, Brie, and the like and in particular, to the provision of a soft, surface cured cheese whose mold pad may be readily removed.

1964 - Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India when the country was shocked of Jawaharlal Nehru's death and Indo-China war. Shastri gave the quotation "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan" which motivated the war-affected Indians to boost their morale. 

1986 - First AIDS death reported from a private hospital in Mumbai.

1999 - The Indian army occupies two key positions in the Batalik sector.

2014 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would begin targeting assets stored overseas in an effort to avoid taxes; the Indian government estimates that up to $2 trillion may be in hiding; the nation follows China and Russia in magnitude of off-shored wealth.
