1786 - The first advertisement for commercially-made ice cream in the U.S. was published in the New York 'Post-Boy'.  The first commercially made ice cream is attributed to Mr. Hall. For ice-cream made at home, a date of 17 May 1784 is recorded in George Washington's expense ledger for the purchase of “a cream machine for ice”.  

1824 -Washing machine patented by Noah Cushing of Quebec.

1869 - Ives W. McGaffney of Chicago obtained the first American patent for a "sweeping machine". This first suction-type vacuum cleaner was a light hand-powered device for surface cleaning. 

1896 - First car thief; Baron de Zuylen’s Peugeot is stolen by his mechanic in Paris.

1936 - 1st parking meters are invented.

1936 - Akashwani Radio; was changed into All India Radio.

1937 - A specimen of the world's largest flower, first bloomed in the U.S. in the NY Botanical Garden. The giant Sumatran Titan Aru measured 8½-ft high and 4-ft diam.  

1948 - 'Malabar Princess', Air India's first international flight, takes off from Bombay to London via Cairo and Geneva. This was weekly air service started between India and the United Kingdom.

1959 - The first official U.S. missile mail was launched from the submarine USS Barbero at about 100 miles off the Atlantic Coast to the Mayport Auxiliary Naval Station. The 36-foot Regulus 1 winged missile carried 3,000 letters, delivering about 22 minutes after launch.

1983 - The first triplets resulting from in-vitro fertilization were born at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Australia. (Britain's first test-tube triplets - a girl and two boys - were born  on 21 Jan 1984, while in the same year, the world's first test tube quadruplets were born in Melbourne, Australia).  

1995 - Bomb attack on the train in Assam India (27 soldiers killed).

1999 - ATP announced Paes-Bhupathi as No. 1 ranked doubles team. In individual doubles ranking, Bhupathi and Paes were No. 1 and 2 respectively.

2000 - Bomb blasts rock churches in three states (A.P, Karnataka and Goa).

2014 - The world's oldest man, Alexander Imich, passes away at age 111 in New York. The oldest living woman is currently 116 years old and lives in Japan).

  • CBIC Introduces PAN-Based GST Refund Clearances of Exporters if such refunds are held up due to the mismatch in GSTIN mentioned in Shipping Bill and Return Forms.

  • RBI  tightened the rules for Remitting Money Abroad under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) and has made PAN mandatory for using this scheme. Earlier PAN was not insisted upon for Putting Current Account Transactions of up to $25,000.

  • Indian Cellular Association” of Indian handset makers have asked the Govt. to Rationalise Taxes Levied on Batteries and issue a clarification that the GST on Lithium-Ion Batteries used in Smartphones should be levied at 12%.

  • Capital First's Merger with IDFC Bank gets RBI nod.

  • MCA is looking into the affairs of all the Companies involved or related in the ICICI Bank-Videocon Loan Controversy of the alleged conflict of interest in bank chief Chanda Kochhar’s dealings with Certain Borrowers.

  • MCA initiated an Investigation into Auditor Resignations at Listed Indian Companies as it seeks more information on the issues raised by these audit firms and asking the resignees to report their reason for quitting.
